If you have any board games or
outdoor lawn games just sitting around collecting dust, please consider
donating them to the Quitman Public Library at 202 East Goode Street,
Quitman. Our summer reading theme is
“Get Your Game on @ the Quitman Public Library,” and we hope to have plenty of
games for everyone to play. Game
activity is planned for each Thursday in June from 4 – 6 p.m., and is designed
to re-introduce (and introduce in some cases) board games and outdoor games to
our youngest readers. Volunteers are
needed to oversee games such as Scrabble, Sorry, Battleship, Candy Land, Chutes
and Ladders, Life, Clue, Monopoly, checkers, dominoes, horse shoes, washers,
marbles, hopscotch and jacks.
Join Historian Sarah McCleskey from the
Texas Historical Commission (THC) at the Quitman Public Library on Saturday,
June 8, 2013, from 1 - 3 p.m. and learn to research and apply for an Official
Texas Historical Marker for your community. This free workshop will provide an
overview of important historical research fundamentals, as participants walk
through a sample historical marker application and a sample narrative.
Mark your calendar for Friday Night
Bluegrass Acoustical Jam Fever on Friday, June 14, from 6 – 9 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. for those who want to tune
up or practice. Acoustical musicians of
all ages and skill levels are welcome, and listeners are welcome too.

GED classes conclude for the year this
Wednesday, July 31, 2013. English as a
Second Language (ESL) classes will hold their last class of the year this
Thursday, May 30, 2013. To learn more
about these classes or to sign up for Fall classes, call the library.
Latino Family Literacy Project begins
Thursday, June 6th, 2013 from 10 am - noon at the Quitman Public
Library, 202 East Goode Street, Quitman TX. This is a free family
reading program for parents of children ages 2 - 10 years old. Learn
about new books to read with your children, meet other parents, make a

Knitting and crochet instruction is
offered by Virginia Hoffpauir in the library’s main gallery each Thursday, 2:00
– 4:00 p.m. Bring your own supplies and
join the group for a fun time of free instruction.
Young Adult and
Children’s Services
Story Time
will meet Friday, May 31st at 11 a.m. Story Time runs concurrently with the
Q.I.S.D. calendar, and will suspend for the summer beginning in June.
Advisory Board
The Quitman Public Library
Advisory Board will meet Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 6 p.m. in the Shamburger
Community Room. The public is always
welcome to attend advisory board meetings.
Friends of the
Library
The Friends of the Quitman Public
Library has concluded its 2013 season and will resume activities this
fall. Friends of the Library is an
active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the
library. The public is always invited to
bring a lunch and spend an hour with people who really love their library. For more information about this group, contact
