Libraries Rock! That is our 2018 Summer Reading theme at the Quitman Public Library during the entire month of June. Exciting musical events are planned for each Thursday in June, and there will be lots of prizes and surprises. On Thursday, June 7 at 2 p.m. we will be rocking the house with ventriloquist and magician, Howdy Do-Dat! On Thursday, June 14 at 2 p.m. we will have a 50s Sock Hop with The “C” and there will be a Dance Off. Stop by or call 903-763-4191 to sign up.

Adult Services
QPL’s Get GED Ready class is on summer break and will resume September 6, 2018. For more information, call or stop by the library.
Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery, and it will meet throughout the summer. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for this free instruction.

Children’s Services
QPL Story Time will celebrate on Thursday, May 24 with “It’s a Storytime Party at Gov. Hogg City Park – the last Story Time for the school year!”

Friends of the Library
The Friends will be on a summer break until Tuesday, September 11, 2018. Friends of the Quitman Public Library is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

Genealogy
The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will have volunteers on hand throughout the summer to assist you with your family history research. Call 903-763-4191 to schedule an appointment or contact a member through the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

On Display
In the lobby showcase is a collection of garden fairy memorabilia and hand-crafted pieces on loan from Kimberly Strickland of Golden TX. Monthly arrangements are designed by Beverly Chamberlain. If you have items you would like to display in the monthly showcase, contact 903-763-4191.

During the Month of May, the library is highlighting Mother’s Day as well as Memorial Day with media displays designed by Melissa Frosch. Stop in and check it out.
Mark your calendar for the 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Jam on May 11 from 6 – 9 p.m. in the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community Room. Doors open at 5 p.m. for those who want to tune up or practice. Acoustical musicians of all ages and skill levels are welcome, and listeners are welcome too. Refreshments are available, but feel free to bring anything you like. For more information, call 903-975-5745.
