The Quitman Public Library will be closed for the Christmas Holiday on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 25 - 26, 2024. Near the checkout area there are displays arranged by the QPL staff to help make your holiday season more entertaining. Stop by and check it out. 



Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the lobby, but the class will not meet on Dec. 26 due to the Christmas holiday. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction.


Board Games for Teens group meets every other Friday from 1 – 4 p.m. in the library’s community room. Bring a couple of board games that your teens enjoy, and you are welcome to bring along snacks and drinks to share. The group is organized by Homeschoolers – Wood County, Texas and is designed for teens only (ages 13 – 19). To verify game days, visit their page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/274383439356229.


The Friends of the Quitman Public Library will meet again on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2024, at noon. There will be a book review and discussion presented by Sue Reynolds. Light refreshments will be available, and the public is always welcome. Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.


Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Certified instructors are available in the computer area at the library to assist with reading/writing skills and math. Also, English as a Second Language (ESL) support service is available at no cost. Contact us to learn more about these programs.


Wood County TX Genealogical Society (WCTGS) meets at the library at 5:30 p.m. on third Mondays. Volunteers are ready to help you record your family’s story. For more information, visit the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.


The Wood County Metal Detector Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets on 1st Mondays at 6:30 p.m. Follow the club for updates at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1508907759602212.


Whyte Dove Writers’ Club, a distinctive group of local published authors, meets monthly on second Tuesdays from 6 – 8:30 p.m. 


Everyone who lives, works, attends school or owns property or a business in Wood County is entitled to a free library card at the Quitman Public Library. Cards are available for those who can provide photo identification and proof of residency, taxpayer status, school enrollment, or proof of employment in Wood County.  A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
