  During February, the Quitman Public Library is highlighting President’s Day, Valentine’s Day, National Heart Month, and Black History Month with displays throughout the library. Stop by soon and it check out.
  Two hiring events are scheduled this month at the library: Thursday, Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. hosted by Express Employment Professionals and Thursday, Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. hosted by Onin Staffing.
  A diabetes workshop will be presented by Northeast Texas Health on Friday, Feb. 16 at 10:30 a.m. No pre-registration is necessary for this free workshop.
  Medicare/Medicaid specialists will be available in the library’s Shamburger Community Room to answer questions on Wednesday, Feb. 21 starting at 11 a.m. and then again from 3 – 5 p.m.
  The library now has 2017 IRS Income Tax Forms available but no printed instruction books. Also, there will be no free AARP Federal Income Tax assistance at the library this tax season. Call the AARP help line at 1-888-227-7669 to find the nearest free tax preparation site. Public computers are available at the library for filing online during regular business hours, and Wi-Fi is available 24/7.

Adult Services
  GED preparatory class meets each Thursday from 4 – 6 p.m.  Students are guided independently according to an individually designed study plan using the Steck-Vaughn method. Sign up at the library’s front desk, or call for more information.
  Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for this free class.

Children’s Services
  QPL Story Time is each Thursday at 2 p.m. It is designed for young readers and home-schooled students; however anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome. Upcoming themes: Feb. 15 “It’s Mardi Gras! Valentine Party” with pizza and games – Feb. 22 “Have You Heard What’s Funny?” – Mar. 1 “What a Blustery Day!” – Mar. 8 “Caterpillars, Ladybugs and Butterflies.”

Friends of the Library
  The Friends invite everyone to bring a lunch and join them at noon on Tuesday, Mar. 13, for an hour of friendship. Rhonda Harris Taylor will present “The Immortal Sherlock Holmes.” Friends of the Quitman Public Library is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

Genealogy
  The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will meet on Monday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room. For more information, visit the group’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.
