  August is National Golf Month, so let your first swing be by the Quitman Public Library to check out our large collection of some of the best books and DVDs on golf.
  Jim Kinsel from Workforce Solutions of East Texas will be at the library on Friday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to assist job seekers. No appointment is necessary.
  The 2nd Friday Acoustical Jam is Friday, Aug. 9, 2019. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in from 6 – 9 p.m. in the library’s community room. There will be an open mic set-up for those who wish to perform. Listeners are always welcome, and you never know when a well-known musician may surprise us with a visit.   Quitman Public Library joins libraries across the country to remind parents that the most important school supply of all is a library card! 

Patron cards are available for those residents who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification.  A guardian must sign for children ages 5 - 17. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Visit our pages at www.quitmanlibrary.org and www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary.  Wi-Fi is available 24/7. 
           
Adult Services
  Online GED test preparatory registration and course assistance is available on Thursdays (language arts) and Fridays (mathematics) from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  Notary service is available at the library during regular business hours, but to guarantee an appointment, call 903-763-4191.
  Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for this free instruction.
 
Children’s Services

Friends of the Library
  The Friends will be on summer break until Tuesday, Sep. 10, 2019. You may sign up for the monthly Friends of the Quitman Public Library Newsletter or obtain more information about becoming a member by contacting Rebekah Yeager at 903-763-4191. Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

Genealogy
  The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will have volunteers on hand during Old Settler’s weekend to assist you with your family history research, according to WCTGS President, David Gilbreath.   Throughout July and August, the Quitman Public Library will host Summer Lunch for Kids every Tuesday – Friday at noon. This is a no-cost program sponsored by Quitman & Liberty Methodist Men to ensure that kids in our community do not go hungry during the summer months.

  During the month of July, Money Camp for children ages 5 – 11 years is each Tuesday and Thursday in July from 10 a.m. – noon at the library. This fun camp is sponsored by City National Bank, Wood County National Bank and Capital One as part of a regional literacy initiative of A Circle of 10, Inc. Call 903-763-4191 for more information about either of these free programs. 
  Displayed near the front check out desk is a collection of the best summer reads selected by Melissa Frosch. Stop by and check it out.
  The 2nd Friday Acoustical Jam is Friday, Aug. 9 from 6 – 9 p.m. Acoustical instruments only and listeners are always welcome. Beans and cornbread served at 7 p.m. This is a free event. Contact Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.
