The QPL 2024 Summer Reading Rodeo is happening during the month of June with entertainment and activities each Wednesday from 1 – 2 p.m. with a schedule as follows: On the 5th, The Creature Teacher will present “Texas Critters!” – On the 12th, Roping with Colt and Line Dancing – On the 19th, Jessie the Yodeling Cowgirl – On the 26th, Reading Awards Party. More details will be available each week on the library’s pages at www.quitmanlibrary.org and https://www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary. Stop by the front desk for your game card beginning June 4, 2024.
The Elizabeth Denton English Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) presented the library with a monetary donation that will help preserve and digitize the library’s historical records. Sincere thanks to all members including Susan Few, Mary Sockwell, Linda Haddock, and Lucille Gilbreath who are working with QPL staff to organize and record our library’s unique collection.  

If you are looking for an activity, here are some clubs that meet regularly at the library: QPL Knitting and Crochet Group meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and patterns to trade. The Wood County Metal Detector Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets on 1st Mondays at 6:30 p.m. Whyte Dove Writers’ Club, a distinctive group of local published authors, meets monthly on second Tuesdays from 6 – 8:30 p.m. The Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets each 3rd Monday at 5 p.m. in the library’s community room. Need a place to hold your next meeting or event? The library offers a spacious community room with the latest technological needs as well as a kitchenette. For lease information, contact the front desk at (903)763-4191.
 
Notary service is generally available at the library during regular business hours, but to guarantee an appointment, call (903)763-2665. Notary fee is $10 per stamped document.

The Quitman Public Library is celebrating May as “Reading the Cowboy Trail” Month, and the line-up of books on display is looking mighty good! Stop by and check out what is new in adult, young adult, and audio westerns. For even more westerns, download the OverDrive® app to connect to our library’s vast collection of eBooks, audio books and streaming videos to enjoy on your electronic devices.

Special thanks to local author William Michael Wright for donating his book When the Music Stopped. He has also gifted the Wood County TX Genealogical Society with a copy of his family research entitled “Ancestry and Childhood Memories: William Michael Wright Family of Wood County, Texas.”

Special thanks extend to the Quitman Garden Club for keeping the library’s gardens so beautifully maintained. Most of the plants are native to Texas and are marked with small signs. If you’d like to learn more about gardening, you can usually find a member or two working on Monday mornings in the library’s patios.
