  National Family History Month is observed annually during the month of October. The Quitman Public Library along with the Wood County TX Genealogical Society invite family researchers, historians and storytellers, to commemorate their family’s rich and deep history this month by allowing us to assist with beginning your genealogical tree. The society will meet on Monday, October 15, at 7 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room. For more information, contact David Gilbreath at 972-977-7988.
  The 2nd Friday Acoustical Jam is Friday, Oct. 12 from 6 – 9 p.m. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in from 6 – 9 p.m. in the library’s community room. Listeners are always welcome at this free event. Contact Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.
  Patron cards are available for those who can provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5 - 17.  Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Keep current at www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary and visit the library’s website at www.quitmanlibrary.org. Wi-Fi is available 24/7. 
                               
Adult Services
  Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir invite students of all ages and skill levels to bring their own supplies and join the group for free crochet and knitting instruction each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery.

Children’s Services
  Story Time meets each Wednesday at 2 p.m.  Lillian Gray plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming themes: Sep. 26 – “Eat Your Vegetables” and create a vegetable platter, Oct. 3 – “I Spy” with games, Oct. 10 – “Crows and Scarecrows” making popsicle stick scarecrows, Oct. 17 – “A Blue Story Time” all the books we read will be blue! Oct. 24 – “Halloween Party!” with a costume contest, games and prizes.
  Story Time is designed for young readers and home-schooled students, but anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome. Call 903-763-BOOK (2665).

Friends of the Library
  The Friends of the Quitman Public Library meet Tuesday, Oct. 9 at noon for an hour of fellowship and fun. This is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library. FOL Officers for 2019 are: Cathy Dye – President, Beverly Chamberlain – Vice President, Lillian Gray – Secretary, Rebekah Yeager – Treasurer/Newsletter, and Diane Moseley – Hospitality.  

Genealogy
  The Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets Monday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room. The society gathers for a pre-meeting social dinner at Peralta’s Mexican Restaurant in Quitman at 6 p.m and invites newcomers to fellowship. On Display
  In the lobby showcase is a collection of chicken memorabilia on loan from Beverly Chamberlain.

  The 2nd Friday Acoustical Jam is Friday, September 14 from 6 – 9 p.m. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in from 6 – 9 p.m. in the library’s community room. There will be an open mic set-up for those who wish to perform. Listeners are always welcome. This is a free event. For more information, call 903-975-5745.

  September is also National Library Card Sign-up Month, so stop in and see what your library has to offer. Patron cards are available for those residents who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification.  A guardian must sign for children ages 5 - 17.

  Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery and is taught by Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring  supplies and join the group for free instruction.

  QPL Story Time has moved to Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Upcoming Story Time themes: Sept 12 – “Easy Food for Kids” where we will prepare our own snacks; Sept. 19 – “It’s Shark Week!”; Sept 26 – “Eat Your Vegetables” where we will create a vegetable platter.

Friends of the Library
  The Friends meet Tuesday, October 9 at noon for an hour of fellowship and fun. One member will share a “5-minute-no-spoiler Book Review,” and another member will present “What You May Not Know about Me.”
