The Quitman Public
Library is recognizing the American Library Association’s Banned Books Week October
4–10, 2026. This national event was launched in 1982 as a reminder of our
freedom to read whatever books we choose. There is a display near the front
checkout area that includes some titles in our collection: A Farewell to Arms,
The Sound and the Fury, 1984, Song of Solomon, The Bluest Eye, The Sun Also
Rises and others.
On Saturday, Oct. 10
beginning at 8 a.m., Wood County Metal Detector Club members will be scanning
Gov. Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman with permission from the Quitman City
Council and under the leadership of Jerry Tinney. The club regularly meets on
first Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room.
The Friends of the QPL Annual
Fall Book Sale is planned for Oct. 27 – 30 starting at 10 a.m. each morning. Proceeds
benefit the library’s summer reading program.
Tutoring is available
each Wednesday at 4 p.m. Whether you are studying for a General Educational
Development (GED) certificate, or just brushing up on your math skills, it is
easier when you have a professional tutor who can guide you through the process.
