The Quitman Public Library will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 – 29, 2024. During November, the library is celebrating several events and highlighting them with displays of books, movies, audiobooks, and eBooks. Near the checkout area is a display arranged by the QPL staff to help you plan for the holidays. Stop by and check it out. The In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas is a small group of photographers that meets every 4th Monday in the library’s community room. Skill levels range from amateur to professional. The next meeting is Monday, Nov. 25, 2024. Visit with other photographers, share ideas, and participate in photography-related contests and events. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 6:30 p.m. meeting and workshop. Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the lobby, but the class will not meet on Nov. 28 due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction. The Friends of the Quitman Public Library will hold a one-hour meeting on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024, at noon. There will be a book review and discussion presented by Sue Reynolds. Light refreshments will be available, and the public is always welcome. Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Certified instructors are available in the computer area at the library to assist with reading/writing skills and math. Wood County TX Genealogical Society (WCTGS) meets at the library at 5:30 p.m. on third Mondays. Volunteers are ready to help you record your family’s story. The Board Games for Teens group meets every other Friday from 1 – 4 p.m. in the library’s community room. Bring a couple of board games that your teens enjoy, and you are welcome to bring along snacks and drinks to share. Everyone who lives, works, attends school or owns property or a business in Wood County is entitled to a free library card at the Quitman Public Library. Cards are available for those who can provide photo identification and proof of residency, taxpayer status, school enrollment, or proof of employment in Wood County. We now offer a new eBook resource called Boundless®. Download the app, find our library on the list, enter your patron card number and password, then open an extensive digital library including eBooks and audio filled with captivating titles across various genres, from trending bestsellers to timeless classics. Our new platform also offers activities, customizable reading programs, and more. We still have Libby®, and SimplyE® has been discontinued. 



The library subscribes to the TexShare Databases, and patrons may use their library card to access over 27,000 journals, over 171,000 eBooks, and over 15 million images, videos, and interactive resources. Find the TexShare Databases link on the library’s website at www.quitmanlibrary.org.
