The Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale week begins on Tuesday, April 29 and will run through Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (4 p.m. on Friday). This sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Quitman Public Library, and all proceeds benefit library programs, materials needed and book purchases. 

Friends of the Quitman Public Library meet on 2nd Thursdays at noon. The next one-hour meeting will be May 8, 2025, and this will be the last meeting of the 2025 season. The public is invited to join this active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the Quitman Public Library. 

Story Time with Spencer happens every 2nd and 4th Friday at 1 p.m. in the children’s section. The next event will be Friday, May 9, 2025. Story time is designed for toddlers through six years of age, and parents need to stay with their children as these story time episodes are recorded.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society invites family researchers and historians to meet on the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room. Wood County Metal Detecting Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets on 1st Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community Room. Exciting historical research and excavation is planned for the summer months. The public is invited. 

Board Games for Teens group meets every other Wednesday from 1 – 4 p.m. in the library’s community room. Bring board games and snacks to share. This group is organized by Homeschoolers – Wood County, Texas and is designed for teens ages 13 – 19. Call 903-763-4191 to confirm game days. 

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. at the library. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join this growing group. The instruction is free.

The Quitman Public Library joins the Quitman I.S.D. in supporting families of  students who are continuing to develop their home language while also learning an additional language.  

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 5 p.m., families are invited to the Quitman Public LIbrary, 202 East Goode Street, Quitman TX, for a Library Tour and Presentation by Delene Allen, Bilingual Digital Resources presented by Melissa Coats, and a chance to sign up for the "Smartest Card" - a library card! Refreshments will be served.  #thesmartestcard

Discover a world of information at your library during National Library Week, April 6-12, 2025. Stop by the Quitman Public Library and check out what we have to offer.

The library will close for Easter Weekend on Friday, April 18, but will reopen on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
