QPL Connections to run November 2, 2016

November is National Native American
Heritage Month, and the Quitman Public Library is recognizing this event with a
display of media available for check out.
Also, there is a holiday collection of books for pleasure reading,
movies with a holiday theme, and books with recipe and decorating ideas to make
Thanksgiving 2016 extra special. These displays are located near the check-out
desk.
The next 2nd Friday Acoustical Music
Circle is Friday, November 11, 2016 from 6 - 9 p.m. Acoustic musicians of all ages and musical
levels are invited to join in, and listeners are always welcome. For more

The Story Time Gang meets each Thursday at 2 p.m. Lillian Gray plans an educational hour filled
with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming weekly themes: November 3rd
–Caldecott Books, November 10th - Lewis & Clark with Sacajawea,
November 17th – Ways to say “Thank you.” There will be no story time
on November 24th because of the Thanksgiving Holiday. Story Time is
designed for young readers and home-schooled students; however anyone who wants
to hear a great story is welcome. Call

Friends of the Library will hold an informal gathering at
The Texas Tea Room on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. The group will hold its next regular meeting
on Tuesday, December 13th, 2016 at noon when the Quitman Elementary
Choir will sing Christmas carols in the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community
Room. The public is always welcome.
Genealogy
The Wood County Genealogical Society meets
Monday, November 21, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the library’s community room. Members

this month to the library’s online collection. Download the OverDrive® app for
access to countless eBooks and audiobooks from the Quitman Public Library. You may check out up to five online items for
your choice of 7 or 14 days.
On Display
In the lobby showcase is a display of owls and
elephants from the personal collection of Beverly Chamberlain. Among the
interesting pieces is an Indian elephant carved from walnut wood.

Campfire” on Monday, October 31, 2016 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at Gov. Jim Hogg City
Park. The public is invited to gather
around the library’s fire pit to share spine-chilling stories. Other exciting events and contests are
scheduled.
