February is Black History Month,
and the Quitman Public Library is highlighting this with a selection of books
in the children’s section as well in the display near the front check-out area.
February is also for valentines, so stop by and check out a romantic movie from
our large collection of DVDs.
Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, marks the seventh
anniversary of the 2nd Friday Acoustic Music Jam at the library. Acoustical
musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in from 6 - 9 p.m.
There will be an open mic set-up for those who wish to perform. Listeners are
always welcome. Call 903-975-5745 for more information.
There will be no free Federal Income Tax
assistance at the Quitman Public Library this tax season. Printed Forms 1040,
1040 A, and 1040 EZ are available here. The AARP Tax Aide office can help with
locating the nearest free tax preparation site by calling 1-888-227-7669. Public
computers, with no time limits, are available at the library for patrons to
file online during regular business hours. Public Wi-Fi is available 24/7.
Patron cards are for Wood County residents
with photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17. Hours

Services
Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir invite students of all ages and skill levels
to bring their own supplies and join the group for free crochet and knitting
instruction each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery.
It’s always a great time to Get Your GED @
QPL! Adult General Educational Development (GED) support services with
assistance provided by State-certified instructor is offered each Thursday, 4 –
6 p.m. in the library’s public computer area.
Children’s Services
Story Time, designed for young readers and
home-schooled students, meets each Wednesday at 2 p.m. Lillian Gray plans an educational hour filled
with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming events: Jan. 30 – Fun Day with Hot Cocoa and a Movie;
Feb. 6 – How Big is America?; Feb. 13 – Valentine Party!; Feb. 20 – What’s
Different About Me?; Feb. 27 Talk About Bullies!

Friends of the Library
Friends of the Quitman Public Library meet
Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at noon in the Shamburger Community Room. The Friends invite join them for an hour of
friendship including a short meeting that always includes a “5-Minute No
Spoiler Book Review,” a short presentation of “Show and Tell” from one of the
members. Special speaker is Mike Holbrook with the East Texas Symphony
Orchestra.
Friends of the Quitman Public Library is an
active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the
library.
