   The newly formed Quitman Bridge Club meets at 2 p.m. on Thursdays in the Thurman Shamburger Room of the Quitman Public Library. Bridge is the ultimate trick-taking card game and is a sport recognized by the World Bridge Federation and the International Olympic Committee. Master Bridge player, Randy Lauser, is the instructor. Beginners are welcome.

  The 2nd Friday Acoustical Jam is Friday, Dec. 13 from 6 – 9 p.m. in the library’s community room. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in. There is an open mic set-up for those who wish to perform. Listeners are always welcome. For more information, call Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.

  The library appreciates volunteers Madison Webber and Lauren Tucker, who help on Thursdays and Fridays, and Terri Bennett who volunteers on Wednesdays for Story Time.

Adult Services
  Jim Kinsel from Workforce Solutions of East Texas will be at the library on Friday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to assist job seekers. No appointment necessary.

  Online GED test preparatory course assistance is available on Tuesdays (language arts) and Fridays (mathematics) from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Visit www.ged.com to create your account.

  Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main lobby. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction.
  Notary service is available at the library during regular business hours, but to guarantee an appointment, call 903-763-4191.

Children’s Services
  QPL Story Time is every Wednesday at 2 p.m. We will “Talk Turkey” on Nov. 20 and Nov. 27 with Thanksgiving-themed games, snacks, crafts and music. For more information, contact Terri Bennett at 903-763-4191. 


Friends of the Library
  The public is invited to attend the Friends of the Quitman Public Library meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019. Special guests will be the FUMC - Quitman Handbell Choir under the direction of Becky Bradfield.   
  You may sign up for the monthly Friends of the Quitman Public Library Newsletter by contacting Rebekah Yeager at 903-763-4191. Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library and welcomes new members throughout the year.


Genealogy
  The Wood County TX Genealogical Society invites researchers to commemorate their family’s rich and deep history this holiday season. The society has workshops on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. On Display
  Rebekah Yeager and Ethel Divinia have designed a display in the lobby showcase called “Time for Tea.” There are tea sets and cups that range from new to vintage and are from near and far. If you have a collection to show in the monthly display case, contact the library.
