March is Women’s History Month, and the Quitman Public Library is celebrating with displays throughout the library honoring women like Rosa Parks, Susan B. Anthony, and Abigail Adams. Women's History Month extends itself as a calling for all women to stand, speak, and encourage one another to reach new goals.

Friends of the Quitman Public Library meet on 2nd Thursdays at noon. The next one-hour meeting will be March 13, 2025, with Susan Lomanto providing special St. Patrick’s Day treats. Among the topics of discussion will be the FOL Spring Book Sale planned for April 29 – May 2, 2025. The public is invited to join this active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the Quitman Public Library.



“Story Time with Spencer” happens every 2nd and 4th Friday at 1 p.m. in the children’s section. The next event will be Friday, March 14, 2025, Story time is designed for toddlers through six years of age, and parents need to stay with their children as the episodes are filmed.



Board Games for Teens will meet on Wednesday, March 19, from 1 – 4 p.m. in the library’s community room. Bring board games and snacks to share. This group is organized by Homeschoolers – Wood County, Texas and is designed for teens ages 13 – 19.



The Wood County TX Genealogical Society invites family researchers and historians to meet on the 3rd Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room. Wood County Metal Detecting Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets on 1st Mondays at 6:30 p.m. at the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community Room. The public is invited.



Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. at the library. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join this growing group. The instruction is free, and you can bring patterns and yarn to swap with others.



Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at 
www.ged.com. Certified teachers are available to help with reading/writing skills and math on Wednesdays during library hours.

Library cards are available at no cost for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5 – 17.
