Quitman Public Library welcomes the fall season by supporting community activities. This week is Fire Prevention Week, and there is a display of children’s books donated by the Quitman Volunteer Fire Department.

 

On Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m., the library will partner with Q.I.S.D. in welcoming visitors to the library’s Shamburger Community Room who are interested in learning more about bilingual programs and services offered in our community.

 

The Friends of the Library Big Fall Book Sale begins on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and will run through Friday Oct. 31. Hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., except for Friday when the sale closes at 4 p.m.



 

Stop by the library on Friday, Oct. 31from 3 – 5 p.m. as we will be giving out treats during the Quitman Chamber of Commerce Halloween Candy Walk.

 

During the Old Settlers Reunion, Oct. 29 – 31, volunteers from the Wood County TX Genealogical Society will be available in the Genealogy Department from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. to help researchers trace their Wood County ancestors.

 

The Quitman Bridge Club will host games on Thursday afternoon at the Carroll Green Civic Center during the Old Settlers Reunion. The club regularly meets at the library on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. David Worrall, an expert Bridge player and instructor, invites players of all levels to play.  



 

The public is invited to join the Wood County Metal Detecting Club on the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community Room.

 

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. at the library. Students of all ages and skill levels are invited to join this growing group. Classes are free.

 

Board Games for Teens group meets every other Friday from 1 – 4 p.m. in the library’s community room. Bring board games and snacks to share. This group is organized by Homeschoolers – Wood County, Texas and is designed for teens ages 13 – 19. Call 903-763-4191 to confirm game days.
