Wood County Democrat – Wood County, TX

Summer Reading is in full swing at the Quitman Public Library! It’s not too late to register to “Get Your Game On,” so stop by the library’s front desk.  There will be a game card for readers to complete in order to win game prizes and a kid’s meal from Subway restaurant.

Activities are planned for each Thursday in June from 2 – 4 p.m.  This week’s activity will take place Thursday, June 13th, at the Gov. Jim Hogg Park Pavilion. Volunteers from Quitman’s Forever Young will share “Games of Yesteryear” with the summer readers.   Scheduled games will include marbles, washers, jacks, hopscotch, jump rope, Bocce ball and horseshoes.  This activity is designed to introduce outdoor games to our youngest readers.  This information, and more, can also be found online at www.quitmanlibrary.org.
Mark your calendar for Friday Night Bluegrass Acoustical Jam Fever on Friday, June 14, from 6 – 9 p.m.  Doors open at 5 p.m. for those who want to tune up or practice.  Acoustical musicians of all ages and skill levels are welcome, and listeners are welcome too. Refreshments are available, but feel free to bring anything you like.  For more information, call 903-952-8305 or 903-763-4191.
Library hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Visit our website at www.quitmanlibrary.org and stop by to check out what your library has to offer.

GED classes conclude for the year on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.  To learn more about GED and ESL classes or to sign up for Fall classes, call the library.
Knitting and crochet instruction is offered by Virginia Hoffpauir in the library’s main gallery each Thursday, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  Bring your own supplies and join the group for a fun time of free instruction.
