Friends of the Quitman Public Library invites new members to join this active group of volunteers during National Friends of Libraries Week. During Oct. 18 – 24, libraries across the country recognize Friends for their dedication to the growth of public libraries. QPL Friends meet for one hour at noon on the second Tuesday of each month in the Shamburger Community Room to discuss book reviews, fundraisers, library programming and activities. Light refreshments are always served. Officers for FY21 are Jackie Gilbreath – president, Carley Tucker – vice-president, Rebekah Yeager – secretary, and Tonia Nix – treasurer.

October is “TeenTober,” a nationwide celebration that promotes teen services in the library as well as online for those 12-18 years of age to "Read For The Fun Of It!" Stop by and check out our newest fall arrivals.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets each 3rd Monday at 7 p.m. in the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community Room. Contact David Gilbreath at 972-977-7988 for details and follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets at the library each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction. Bring your patterns to swap with others.

Library cards are available for those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification.  A guardian must sign for children ages 5 - 17.  Check our website to find the TexShare® database of reference resources and OverDrive® for the latest eBooks.
