During October, the Quitman Public Library is highlighting National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15–Oct 15). Visit our webpage at www.quitmanlibrary.org. and link to our online display of e-books celebrating this event. The OverDrive® link will also connect you to a vast collection of other e-books, audio books and streaming video.

October is “TeenTober,” a nationwide celebration that promotes teen services in the library as well as online for those 12-18 years of age to "Read For The Fun Of It!" Stop by and check out our newest fall arrivals.

Friends of the Quitman Public Library invites new members to join this active group of volunteers during National Friends of Libraries Week. During Oct. 18 – 24, libraries across the country recognize Friends for their dedication to the growth of public libraries. QPL Friends meet for one hour at noon on the second Tuesday of each month in the Shamburger Community Room to discuss book reviews, fundraisers, library programming and activities. Light refreshments will be served. Carley Tucker and Brandi Box from the Quitman Chamber of Commerce will offer a short presentation on upcoming Chamber events. Officers for FY21 are Jackie Gilbreath – president, Carley Tucker – vice-president, Rebekah Yeager – secretary, Tonia Nix – treasurer.

The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will meet each 3rd Monday at 7 p.m. in the library’s Thurman Shamburger Community Room. Contact David Gilbreath at 972-977-7988 for details and follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets at the library each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction. Bring your patterns to swap with others.

Library cards are available for those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification.  A guardian must sign for children ages 5 - 17.  Check our website to find our TexShare® database that is loaded with up-to-the-minute research tools and reference resources.
