  The Quitman Public Library will be closed Friday, July 3, 2020 in observance of Independence Day.  Wi-fi will be available in the parking lot area for patrons.

  July 2020 is GAO Youth Financial Literacy money camp at the Quitman Public Library! This year’s local sponsors are City National Bank – Quitman and Wood County National Bank.   The 2020 Summer Reading “Imagine Your Story” program is over, and all of the participants were awarded prizes sponsored by Sonic – Quitman and the Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis.

  Displayed near the front check out desk is a collection of great summer reads and movies selected by the QPL staff. Also, we have added several new Large Print novels to the collection by patron request. Stop by and check things out! Also, there are plenty of new e-books aimed for elementary-aged children that are available online by visiting the library’s home page at www.quitmanlibrary.org. 

  Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction.

  The 2nd Friday Acoustic Jam is Friday, July 10, 2020. Acoustic instruments only and listeners are always welcome. For more information, call Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.

  The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will have volunteers on hand throughout the summer to assist you with family history research. Call 903-763-4191 to schedule an appointment or contact a member through the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.

  The library is operating in accordance with current State guidelines with regular hours of Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.  Visitors are encouraged to wear protective masks and allow others plenty of personal space. All patron areas are regularly disinfected with industrial grade sanitizer. 

  Patron cards are available for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5 – 17.   The Quitman Public Library is open and providing public service in accordance with current State guidelines. Social distancing and wearing protective masks are strongly encouraged. All patron areas are regularly disinfected with industrial grade sanitizer.  
  Many library programs are slowly and carefully returning, but State mandated maximum capacity guidelines are being enforced. Our children’s program coordinator has announced that the 2020 Summer Reading program is still planned for June, but activities have been modified for outdoors at Gov. Jim Hogg City Park. A schedule will be announced soon.

  The Quitman Public Library has re-opened this week and will provide services in accordance with current State guidelines. Social distancing and wearing protective masks are strongly encouraged. Patrons will be allowed inside the building, but the library will be operating at a 25% maximum capacity until further mandated. 
  During the hiatus, all patron areas have been sanitized. Also, any fines incurred are being wiped from the books – even books that were due months ago will have fines forgiven. 
  All library programs are suspended until further notice. Our children’s program coordinator has announced that the 2020 Summer Reading program is still planned for June, but activities have been modified for outdoors at Gov. Jim Hogg City Park. A schedule will be announced soon.
    The online Tumble Book Library is available for our youngest readers. The Tumble Book database is easy to use and features unlimited access from your device! Check our website home page for user and password information.

  The Quitman Public Library building remains temporarily closed until mandates are lifted. You may return your materials by leaving them in the book drop at the east entrance, or just hang on to them and consider them renewed. All overdue fines will be waived.  All library programs are suspended until further notice.

  Although physical materials cannot be checked out right now, there are alternatives. Now may be the perfect time to explore digital materials if you have a computer, tablet, phone or reading device using OverDrive, Libby, and TexShare Databases. Visit our website at www.quitmanlibrary.org.

  The Tumble Book Library is also available for our youngest readers. The Tumble Book database is easy to use and features unlimited access from your device! Check our website home page for user and password information.

  If you have an urgent need for copies, faxing, printing, legal or tax forms, or need notary service, call or email and we will do our best to serve you.

  How long will the library be closed? The library will be closed until the most current mandate is lifted. 
  I have materials checked out or that need renewing. What about fines? Please return your materials when they are due by leaving them in the book drop at the east entrance, or just hang on to them and consider them renewed. All overdue fines will be waived.
  What about library programs? All library programs are suspended until further notice. Friends of the Library and QPL Story Time hope to reconvene in September. Summer Reading and Summer Lunch for Kids are subject to being postponed.
  What about Wi-fi and e-services? Wi-fi is available 24/7 for patrons and can be best accessed from the front parking area. Call 903-763-4191 during business hours if you need the password.
  How can I get a library card? Call the library. We can renew or, if you are a residnet of Wood County TX, we can assign you a temporary card number over the phone.
