Quitman Public Library News
On behalf of the staff, I wish to thank the Friends of the Library for hosting such
an outstanding Book and Bake Sale this year.
There were a few boxes of really nice books that we will store for the
next sale.
For the past year,
I have been working on a grant to renew funding for the English as a Second
Language Program (ESL). Our funding has
been renewed for 2013, and we hope to add a GED program soon. Sandra Grider is our instructor, and
new students are signing up weekly.
I recently met
with Dr. Christopher Chappa, Dean of
Tyler Junior College, in hopes of
reaching a contract agreement for the library to be an off-site campus for
selected TJC courses.
Story Time is
back and happens each Friday at 11:00 a.m.
We are always looking for volunteer readers, so check with me if you
would like to share a book with our youngest readers. Thanks go to Diane Moseley, Wayne
McCluney, and Sara de la Rosa (pictured)
who regularly donates her Friday lunch hour to the children.
We have just
received a large supply of Large Print books, audio books on CD, and movies on
DVD. We hope to have these cataloged and
out over the next couple of weeks in time for holiday check-outs.
The library
recently participated in the Texas
Library Association “Library Snapshot Day.” This is an annual project where
libraries across the state can showcase a typical library day. Pictured here is
one of our “typical day” submissions. http://www.flickr.com/groups/librarysnapshotday
Friends of the Library members are
always welcome to join the bi-monthly QPL Advisory Board meetings. The FY2013 meetings are scheduled for the
following Thursdays at 6:00 p.m.:
November 8, 2012
January 10, 2013
March 14, 2013
May 9, 2013
September 12, 2013
November 14, 2013
The library is hosting Acoustical
Bluegrass Jams on the 2nd Friday of each month 5-9p.m. The
public is invited to join in and play, sing, or just listen. It’s free and lots of fun!
As always, I thank the Friends
of the Library for its generous support of the Quitman Public Library.
Delene Allen,
Library
