Library Notes by Delene H. Allen

            Stop by the Quitman Public Library for a cup of warm spiced cider and browse our collection of holiday movies and books.
            There will be an Acoustical Musician's Workshop at the Quitman Public Library on Friday, December 14, 2012, from 4 - 6 p.m. This workshop will feature singer, songwriter and guitarist, Shea Birdwell, who will share his song-writing technique and give instruction on guitar rhythm methods and chord transitions.  There is no fee to participate.
Following the workshop will be the regular Friday Night Bluegrass Jam Fever event commencing at 6 p.m. in the community room.  Acoustical musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in, and listeners are always welcome.  Refreshments will be available. Advisory Board
            The Quitman Public Library Advisory Board will meet Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.  Among the items on the agenda will be a director’s report of plans for 2013. The public is welcome to attend advisory board meetings.

Adult Services
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are back in session Thursdays from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. and will run concurrently with the Q.I.S.D. holiday schedule.  Therefore, there will be no class on Thursday, December 20 or December 27, 2012. The class is taught by Sandra Grider, Certified Instructor. 
Knitting instruction is offered by Virginia Hoffpauir in the library’s main gallery each Thursday, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.  Classes will continue throughout the holidays.  Virginia has over 45 years of experience in hand-knitting, and can teach all levels. Bring your own supplies and join the group for a fun time of free instruction. 
           
Friends of the Library
Friends of the Library invite you to share your lunch hour with them January 8, 2013, from noon until 1:00 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room.  Local author, Maryann Miller, will be their special guest.
The Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth, enhancement and improvement of the library and its services to the community. 

Genealogy
             The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will continue its guest-speaker series that focuses on the families and histories of smaller communities in Wood County.  Recent guests have talked about growing up in Pine Mills and the Cartwright community.  January’s meeting will focus on Alba-Golden and the Rhoads community.  Join the group when it meets Monday, January 21, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at the library.  You may find updated information at http://woodtxgene.com

Youth Services
            Story Time Hour will meet Friday, December 14, 2012. The program is designed for infant to pre-school, however, anyone who wants to hear a good story is welcome.
