The Friends of the Quitman Public
Library Annual Fall Book and Bake Sale will take place Thursday November 6,
through Saturday, November 8, 2014, beginning at 10 a.m. The sale ends Saturday
at 2 p.m.
November is
National Native American Heritage Month, and the Quitman Public Library is
recognizing this event with a display of media available for check out. Also, there is a holiday collection of books
for pleasure reading, movies with a holiday theme, and books with recipe and
decorating ideas to make Thanksgiving extra special. These displays are located
near the check-out desk.
Special
thanks go to Ulna McWhorter and family for donating at Kimball console piano
for the Thurman Shamburger Community Room. Also, the Wood County TX Genealogical Society
recently awarded a lifetime membership to me, Delene Allen, and I consider this
a great honor.
If you already
have a mobile phone or reading device, download the OverDrive® app for access
to countless eBooks and audiobooks from the Quitman Public Library. You may check out up to five online items for
your choice of 7 or 14 days to read on your computer, your smart phone, and
your reading device such as the Nook® or Kindle®. Download instructions are

Patron
cards are available for those residents who can provide proof of residence in
Wood County and photo identification. A
guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.

Adult
Services
GED® or General Educational
Development preparatory class is held at the Quitman Public Library each
Thursday from 4:30 – 6 p.m. The class is
taught by a certified instructor, and all study materials are free. Students are taught independently according to
a individually designed study plan. Sign
up at the library’s front desk, or call 903-589-6900 for more information.
Knitting and crochet instruction
class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery. Students of
all ages and skill levels are invited to bring their own supplies and join the
group for this free class.
Advisory
Board
The Library Advisory Board will hold its
next meeting on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 6 p.m. The public is always welcome.
Children’s
Services
Story Time Hour is each Wednesday 2
- 3 p.m. and runs concurrently with the QISD calendar. Elizabeth Soutendijk,
Jessica King, Lillian Gray and Diane Jones have planned a fun hour of thematic
stories, crafts, and entertainment. Story Time Hour is designed for young
readers and home-schooled students; however anyone who wants to hear a great
story is welcome. For more information,

Library will meet on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at noon in the Shamburger
Community Room.
Genealogy
The Wood County TX Genealogical
Society will meet on Monday, November
17, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the library’s
Shamburger Community Room. Officers for FY15 are Shirley Bates, president;
Karen Pilgrim, vice president; Mary Ann Niswanger, treasurer; Ronnie Vance,
