is National “Art Appreciation Month,” and what better way to appreciate art
than to sharpen your own artistic skills? Art classes for all ages will be held
weekly at the Quitman Public Library beginning January 6, 2016. The classes
will cover an array of media including pencil drawing, charcoal, ink and
watercolor. Youth classes for children twelve and under will be held on
Wednesdays from 5 – 6 p.m. Adult classes will be held on Thursdays from 5 – 6 p.m.
Classes are $4 for youth and $8 for adults. An open house will be held on Tuesday,
January 5, 2016 from 1 – 3 p.m. in the Thurman Shamburger Community Room to
allow those interested in the course to meet other students and the

is also “Get Healthy, Stay Healthy” month.
If your resolution is to exercise, diet, or just be a better person, the
library has the information and books you need to be successful. This special display is located near the
check-out area.
The 2nd
Friday Acoustical Music Circle is Friday, January 8, 2016, from 6 - 9 p.m in
the library’s community room. Acoustic
musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in, and listeners
are always welcome. Refreshments will be

Services
GED® or General Educational
Development preparatory class meets at the Quitman Public Library each Thursday
from 4:30 – 6 p.m. and is taught by a certified instructor. Class will meet Thursday, January 7, 2016. Students
are taught independently according to an individually designed study plan, and
all materials are free. Sign up at the

Knitting
and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s
main gallery. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies
and join the group for this free class.
Children’s
Services
Story Time Hour is each Thursday 2 -
3 p.m. This Thursday, January 7, 2016, Lillian Gray has planned a fun hour of
thematic stories, crafts, and entertainment focused on “Trivia.” The children
will play charades and a trivia game. Story Time Hour is designed for young
readers and home-schooled students; however anyone who wants to hear a great

The
Library Advisory Board will hold its next meeting on Thursday, January 7, 2016
at 6 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
Friends
of the Library
Friends of the Quitman Public
Library meet Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at noon in the Shamburger Community
Room. The Friends invite everyone to
bring a lunch and join them for an hour of friendship. Special guest will be
Andy Skrzynsky, author of The New World:
A Step Backward. Also, a member will present a 5-Minute No Spoiler Book Review. The Friends of the Quitman Public
Library is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and
improvement of the library.

The Wood County TX Genealogical
Society will meet on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the library’s
Shamburger Community Room. Officers for FY16 are David Gilbreath, president;
Karen Pilgrim, vice president; Mary Ann Niswanger, treasurer; Ronnie Vance,
