   Now is the time to get your garden in shape for spring and summer blooms, and the Quitman Public Library has information you need to get ready. Near the front desk is a seasonal display of books, selected by the Quitman Garden Club, with tips for planting, gardening, food preservation and processing. The Quitman Garden Club invites interested gardeners to join members at the library on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. Also, special thanks go to Beverly Chamberlain for donating a 2-year subscription to Birds & Blooms.
  The 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Jam at the Quitman Public Library is Friday, March 10, 2017.   Acoustical musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in from 6 - 9 p.m. in the library’s community room. There will be an open mic set-up for those who wish to perform. Listeners are always welcome. 
  Mark your calendar for the Friends of the Library Spring Cookbook Sale scheduled for March 16 – 17, 2017 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. If you want a preview, stop by and help the Friends set up at 8 a.m. on March 16.
  The Quitman Public Library will not host the AARP Tax Assistance program this year. To locate the nearest free AARP preparation site, call 1-888-227-7669. Public computers are available at the library for filing online during regular business hours, and Wi-Fi is available 24/7.

Adult Services
  During March, the General Educational Development (GED) preparatory class will only meet on March 2 and March 23. Due to Spring Break, class will not meet on March 9 and March 16 due to Spring Break. Class time is 4 – 6 p.m. and is taught by certified instructor, Susan Resnik. 
  Knitting and crochet instruction class will continue through Spring Break. Instructor, Virginia Hoffpauir, welcomes all ages and skill levels each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery.

Children’s Services
  The Story Time Gang meets each Thursday at 2 p.m. Lillian Gray plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming themes are: March 2 “All About Line Dancing!” – March 9 “All About Ezra Jack Keats,” and we will make comic book place mats. There will be no Story Time on March 16 due to Spring Break.
  Story Time is designed for young readers and home-schooled students, but anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome. Special thanks to Peoples Telephone – Quitman TX for sponsoring crafts and activities.

Friends of the Library
  Friends of the Quitman Public Library meet Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at noon in the Shamburger Community Room. The Friends invite everyone to join them for an hour of friendship. The short meeting will include “5-Minute No Spoiler Book Review,” a short presentation of “What You May Not Know about Me” from one of the members, and musical entertainment provided by Mike Gilmore who will play the bagpipe in full regalia in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
  Friends is an active group of men and women dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

Advisory Board
            The Quitman Public Library Advisory Board will meet Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 6 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. Among the items on the agenda will be updating library policy.  The public is always welcome to attend advisory board meetings.

Genealogy
  The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will meet at the library on Monday, March 20, 2017, at 7 p.m. An early workshop begins at 6 p.m. Visit http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx.
