(QUITMAN, TX) – If you haven’t had a
library card in years, or if your child needs his or her first card, September
is the perfect month to get one. The Quitman Public Library joins with the
American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to encourage everyone
to get the best deal around – a free library card.
“Library cards are free for first-time
accounts, and replacement cards for existing accounts are only $2.00,” says
Director Delene Allen.
You can get a lot from having a
library card. Currently, the Quitman Public Library holds around 30,000 items
of fiction, non-fiction, audio books and movies in categories like reference,
large print, western, biography, genealogy, easy reader, children’s, and young
adult, just to name a few. Also, there are thousands of eBooks available from Overdrive®
for card-holding patrons.
In addition, the Quitman Public
Library subscribes to online TexShare Databases® where patrons can find the
most current information available. “Some of the more popular databases are
Heritage Quest, Legal Collection, Medline, Small Engine Repair Reference
Center, Funk and Wagnall’s New Encyclopedia, and all Ebsco databases,” says
Allen.
“People can turn to the library for
materials, programs and services that support academic achievement, job skills
and advancement, personal growth, research, or even entertainment from the
pleasure of reading. The library also offers free Wi-Fi and Internet access,”
says Allen.
Patron
cards are available for those residents who can provide proof of residence in
Wood County and provide photo identification.
A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
Stop the Quitman Public Library any Tuesday
through Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. to get the best deal around – a free
library card.
