  Quitman Public Library staff and volunteers would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year 2019! The library will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 for New Year’s Day.

  This month, the library will highlight the new year with a display of self-help books selected by Melissa Frosch and Jessica King. Look for the “New Beginning” display near the front checkout desk.
  If you got a new guitar for Christmas, bring it on out to the 2nd Friday Acoustic Jam at the Quitman Public Library on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 from 6 – 9 p.m. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in with acoustical instruments only. Beginners are welcome to come early to workshop at 5 p.m. Listeners are always welcome at this free event. Contact Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.

  Patron cards are available for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County.   Knitting and Crochet class will resume on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019. Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir invite students of all ages and skill levels to bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery.

  Adult GED support services will resume on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019. Assistance from a State certified instructor is offered each Thursday, 4 – 6 p.m. in the library’s public computer area.


Children’s Services
  Story Time meets each Wednesday at 2 p.m.  Lillian Gray plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming events: Jan. 2 – Snow Globes; Jan. 9 – Who Sleeps During the Winter?; Jan. 16 – It’s Wet and Cold!; Jan. 23 – Snowman – What’s His Story?; Jan. 30 – Fun Day with Hot Cocoa and a Movie!

Friends of the Library
  The Friends of the Quitman Public Library invites everyone to its next meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019 at noon in the Thurman Shamburger Community Room. The Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

  Don’t miss a special Christmas Story Time this Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018.  Beginning at 2 p.m., Elvis (instead of Santa) will perform and he will hand out scarves and teddy bears to the kids! Everyone is welcome regardless of age. Pizza will be served, but feel free to bring another one!
  Quitman Public Library staff and volunteers would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! The library will be closed Monday, Dec. 24 and Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018 for the Christmas holiday.

  The Quitman Public Library staff and volunteers would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! The library will be closed Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23, 2018 for the Thanksgiving holiday.


  November is National American Indian Heritage Month, and the library has highlighted this month-long event with a media display designed by Melissa Frosch.  

  The 2nd Friday Acoustic Jam is Friday, Dec. 14 from 6 – 9 p.m. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in with acoustical instruments only. Listeners are always welcome at this free event. Contact Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.

  The FOL Fall Book Sale begins Wednesday, Nov. 14 and runs through Friday, Nov. 16, 2018. The sale will take place during library business hours from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. each day.

The Quitman Public Library along with the Wood County TX Genealogical Society invite family researchers, historians and storytellers, to commemorate their family’s rich and deep history this month by allowing us to assist with beginning your genealogical tree.   The 2018 Summer Reading theme at the Quitman Public Library during the entire month of June is “Libraries Rock!” On Thursday, June 7 at 2 p.m. we will be rocking the house here at the library with ventriloquist and magician, Howdy Do-Dat, then on Thursday, June 14 at 2 p.m. we will have a 50s Sock Hop with Dale “The C” Cummings.  Exciting musical events are planned for each Thursday in June, and there will be lots of prizes and surprises. Pick up your game card and check out some of our brand new books selected especially for our youngest readers!
  The 2nd Friday Acoustical Jam is Friday, June 8 from 6 – 9 p.m. Special guests are planning to attend from deep East Texas as well as Central Texas, so this will be a great time to network! Acoustical instruments only and listeners are always welcome. Beans and cornbread served at 7 p.m. This is a free event.
