   Quitman Public Library staff and volunteers would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year 2020! That includes Delene Allen, Jessica King, Sheree Moore, Virginia Hoffpauir, Lauren Tucker, and Madison Webber.
   January is National “Get Organized” Month. Near the front desk is a media display of self-help books filled with ideas to help you clear, or at least control, the clutter for the New Year.
   Stop by the library to “Meet the Author” on Jan. 14, 2020 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the library’s front lobby. Local author Joe Boyd looks forward to meeting the public as she introduces her newest book, “A Spiritual Awakening: Volume II.”
   Story Time meets each Wednesday at 2 p.m.  Terri Bennett plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming: Jan. 8 “Things I Want to Do in 2020! The program is designed for young readers and home-schooled students, but anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome. Call 903-763-BOOK (2665). Special thanks to Peoples Telephone for funding and sponsorship of this year’s crafts and activities.
   The 2nd Friday Acoustic Jam is Friday, Jan. 10, 2020 from 6 – 9 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in with acoustical instruments only.    Friends of the Quitman Public Library invites everyone to its next meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020 at noon in the Shamburger Community Room.    Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Assistance in reading/writing skills and math is available in the public computer area on Tuesdays and Fridays during library hours.
   In the lobby showcase during the month of January is a collection of Snoopy memorabilia on loan from Tonia Nix.   
   Patron cards are available for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5 – 17.    The QPL Story Time Christmas Pajama Party is Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019 at 2 p.m. in the library’s community room. Kids can wear their jammies, bring a pillow and blanket, and enjoy cocoa, popcorn and a holiday movie! QPL Story Time will be back from holiday break on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. The program is designed for preschoolers and home-schooled students.    The newly formed Quitman Bridge Club meets at 2 p.m. on Thursdays in the Thurman Shamburger Room of the Quitman Public Library. Bridge is the ultimate trick-taking card game and is a sport recognized by the World Bridge Federation and the International Olympic Committee. Master Bridge player, Randy Lauser, is the instructor. Beginners are welcome.

  August is National Golf Month, so let your first swing be by the Quitman Public Library to check out our large collection of some of the best books and DVDs on golf.
  Jim Kinsel from Workforce Solutions of East Texas will be at the library on Friday, Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to assist job seekers. No appointment is necessary.

There will be an open mic set-up for those who wish to perform. Listeners are always welcome, and you never know when a well-known musician may surprise us with a visit.
