The library will be closed for New Year’s Day on Thursday, Jan.
1, 2026, and will return to regular business hours on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026.
A new year is a great time to begin earning a General Educational Development (GED) certificate. GED refers to a series of tests that certify a person has achieved a high school level of academic knowledge and skills, and it serves as an alternative to a traditional high school diploma. Free GED tutoring is available at the library each Wednesday, 4 - 6 p.m. It is taught by a degreed and professionally trained tutor who specializes in math and essay writing. For more information, contact saradelarosa@outlook.com or call the library at 903-763-4191.
Due to the unexpected closure of Baker & Taylor, access
to the Boundless® eBook app is no longer available. For many of the same books,
and more, enjoy Quitman Public Library’s eBook platform, Libby®, powered by
OverDrive and the Northeast Texas Digital Consortium. For questions about your
username and password, call the front desk at 903-763-4191.
QPL Knitting & Crochet Class will return to regular
meetings on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026. The class regularly meets each Thursday 2 –
4 p.m. at the library. Students of all ages and skill levels are invited to
join this growing group. Classes are free.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be
Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at noon. The Friends now meet quarterly in the library’s
Shamburger Community Room on the 2nd Thursday of February, May, September, and December.

of each month at the library. You are welcome to join this group of regional
authors, editors, and aspiring writers who meet to discuss, review and share
techniques. This workshop is open to the public.
Wood County Metal Detector Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets
on 1st Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Quitman Public Library. The
public is invited.
The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will return to regular
meetings in January. The society meets on 3rd Mondays at 5:30 p.m.
