The Quitman Public Library is recognizing the “Dog Days of Summer” which refers to a time of particularly hot and humid weather occurring during the summer months of late July and August. You are invited to stop by the library, cool off, and check out the display near the front desk that celebrates these days of lethargy.  For our youngest summer readers, check out any book about a dog, and you win an ice cream cup courtesy of Quitman’s Sonic Drive-In through August 31.

It’s a Fiction Only Book Sale! The Friends of the QPL are holding a book sale from Aug. 7 – 8, 2026, in the community room. Many of these fiction books are new and one-of-a-kind.

Tutoring is available each Wednesday at 4 p.m. Whether you are studying for a General Educational Development (GED) certificate, or just brushing up on your math skills, it is easier when you have a professional tutor who can guide you through the process. The QPL Knitting & Crochet Club meets each Thursday from 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s lobby. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and enjoy free instruction and pattern exchange.

Wood County Metal Detector Club is all about metal detecting and historical research here in Wood and surrounding counties. If you are interested in digging for treasure, join the meeting on first Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room.

Whyte Dove Writers’ Club meets monthly on second Tuesdays from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the library. Consider joining this distinctive group of local published authors.

Patron cards are free for Wood County residents with photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17.
