November is National Native American Heritage Month, and the library is highlighting this event with an informational display located near the front check-out area.  Also, during the month of November, the library is highlighting the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays with a display of media to help with decorating, entertaining, gift-making, and recipe ideas.  
Friday Night Bluegrass Jam Fever is always on the second Friday of the month in the library’s community room.  The next acoustical jam is Friday, December 13, 6 - 9 p.m.  Come early to tune up.  Acoustic musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in, and listeners are always welcome.  Refreshments will be available. Adult Services
Virginia Hoffpauir invites everyone to bring their own supplies and join her group for a fun time of free knitting and crochet instruction.  The class meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery. All levels welcome. 
Class is in session each Thursday for GED preparation from 10 a.m. – noon and English as a Second Language (ESL) from 4 – 6 p.m. in the library’s conference room.  These classes run concurrently with the Q.I.S.D. holiday schedule.  ESL and GED classes are taught by certified instructor, Sandra Grider. To sign up for either class, just stop by during class hours.

Young Adult and Children’s Services
Join us for Story Time at the Quitman Public Library, 202 East Goode Street, Quitman TX each Friday from 11 a.m. - noon for an hour of story time activities. The program is designed for young readers and home-schooled students; however anyone who wants to hear a great story is welcome.
Elizabeth Soutendijk, who works with Gateway to Libraries - Reading Literacy, has designed a wonderful thematic program that teaches as well as entertains. For more information, call 903-763-BOOK.

Friends of the Library
            The Friends of the Library invite the public to the next meeting on December 10, 2013 at noon in the Shamburger Community Room.  The Quitman Elementary Choir will be performing a medley of Christmas carols.  Refreshments will be available, but you are welcome to bring cookies for the children.
Friends of the Library is a lively group of men and women dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.  
                                                                                                            
Genealogy
             Whether you're new to family history research or have devoted a lifetime to it, the Quitman Public Library has the resources you need.  We offer on-site access to NewspaperArchive, Ancestry, HeritageQuest and AncientFaces at no charge to patrons, and we are a designated LDS FamilySearch center.

On Display
            In the lobby showcase is a collection of printed media covering the Assassination of JFK.  These materials are on loan from Gene Allen, Dallas TX.
