The
public is invited to the Friends of the Quitman Public Library regular meeting
on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at noon, to meet author Mary Gail Reed, one of three
authors who write as Helen Foster Reed. Gail will be discussing their latest
book, A Flock of Sparrows, a novel about five Texas widows, the storm of
the century, and the strength of faith and friendship. There will be a covered
dish lunch to celebrate the Friends last meeting of the season, so bring a dish
and enjoy the fellowship.
The next
2nd Friday Acoustical Jam Circle is Friday, May 13, 2016. All skill
levels and ages are welcome. Everyone is invited to stop by and play or just
listen to some great acoustical music.

guardian must sign for children ages 5 - 17.

Adult
Services
General Educational Development GED®
preparatory class, taught by Virginia Haney, will hold its last class for the
year on Thursday, May 19th, 2016 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. at the Quitman
Public Library. There is no charge for GED classes, so stop by and Virginia
will be happy to tell you more about the program and what to expect for classes
this fall.
Art Class meets each Thursday from 5
– 6 p.m. and is taught by Sara de la Rosa. For more information and updates

Free knitting and crochet
instruction is offered each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery
and is taught by Virginia Hoffpauir. Students of all ages and skill levels may
bring their own supplies and join the group.

Services
Join the
Story Time Gang on on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 2 – 3 p.m. to learn about this
week’s theme: Mothers! Lillian Gray will be reading Are you my Mother?, How
Many Kisses Do You Want?, and for a craft, the children will make their mothers
hand flowers. Story Time is an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and
plenty of fun. It is designed for young readers and home-schooled students;

Friends
of the Library
The
Friends invite everyone to a Potluck Dinner at noon on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, for
a special hour of community fellowship at the Quitman Public Library! Guest speakers will be authors Gail Reed and Helen Myers who make up
two-thirds of the writing trio who write under the pen name of Helen Foster
Reed. Their partner Madeleine Foster is unable to attend. They will be
discussing their current book, A Flock of Sparrows.
This will be the last meeting of
the season, and after a summer break, the Friends will meet again on Tuesday, September
13, 2016. The Friends of the Quitman Public Library is an active group
of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.
Genealogy
The Wood County TX Genealogical
Society will meet Monday, May 16, 2016 at the library. Volunteers are
available, by appointment, to assist anyone who would like to learn more about

In
the lobby showcase is a display, commemorating the 50th Anniversary
of the Vietnam War, arranged by the Elizabeth Denton English Chapter of the
Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Among the interesting items are
boots, medals, dog tags and a model of a 187th Assault Helicopter.
