February is Black History Month, and the Quitman
Public Library is highlighting this with a selection of books and DVDs in the
children’s section as well in the display case near the front check-out area.
February is also for valentines, so stop by and check out our very large
selection of books in regular and large print as well as romantic movies.
Friday, February 10, 2017, marks the fifth
anniversary of The 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Jam at the Quitman Public
Library. Acoustical musicians of all
ages and musical levels are invited to join in from 6 - 9 p.m. in the library’s
community room. There will be an open mic set-up for those who wish to perform.
Listeners are always welcome.
There will be no free Federal Income Tax
assistance at the Quitman Public Library this tax season. The AARP Tax Aide office
can help you locate your nearest free tax preparation site by calling
1-888-227-7669. The library only has printed 2016 Forms 1040, 1040 A, 1040 EZ
and instruction booklets, however, public computers are available at the
library for patrons to file online during regular business hours. Public Wi-Fi
is available 24/7.
Patron cards are for Wood County residents
with photo identification. A guardian
must sign for children ages 5-17.

It’s always a great time to Get Your GED @
QPL! Stop by or call 903-763-4191. The General Educational Development (GED) preparatory
class meets at the Quitman Public Library each Thursday from 4 – 6 p.m. and is
taught by certified instructor, Susan Resnik.
Knitting and crochet instruction class,
taught by Virginia Hoffpauir, meets each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s
main gallery. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own
supplies and join the group for this free class.
Children’s
Services
The Story Time Gang meets each Thursday at 2
p.m. Lillian Gray plans an educational
hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming themes are: Feb. 2
“All About the Poetry of Phillis Wheatley” – Feb 9 “All About African American
Arts & Crafts” – Feb 16 “All About Bessie Coleman” – Feb 23 “All About the
Poetry of Langston Hughes.”
Story Time is designed for young readers and
home-schooled students, but anyone who wants to hear a great story is

Friends of the
Library
Friends of the Quitman Public Library meet
Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at noon in the Shamburger Community Room. The Friends invite everyone to bring a lunch
and join them for an hour of friendship. There will be a short meeting that
always includes a “5-Minute No Spoiler Book Review,” a short presentation of
“What You May Not Know about Me” from one of the members, and piano and violin entertainment
provided by The Allens.
Friends
of the Quitman Public Library is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the
growth and improvement of the library.
Genealogy
The Wood County TX Genealogical Society will
meet in the library’s Shamburger Community Room on Monday, February 13, 2017.
The workshop begins at 6 p.m. prior to the 7 p.m. meeting. For more information
