  The Quitman Public Library has re-opened this week and will provide services in accordance with current State guidelines. Social distancing and wearing protective masks are strongly encouraged. Patrons will be allowed inside the building, but the library will be operating at a 25% maximum capacity until further mandated. 

  During the hiatus, all patron areas have been sanitized. Also, any fines incurred are being wiped from the books – even books that were due months ago will have fines forgiven. 

  All library programs are suspended until further notice. Our children’s program coordinator has announced that the 2020 Summer Reading program is still planned for June, but activities have been modified for outdoors at Gov. Jim Hogg City Park. A schedule will be announced soon.

    The online Tumble Book Library is available for our youngest readers. The Tumble Book database is easy to use and features unlimited access from your device! Check our website home page for user and password information. 

  Patron cards are available for those who provide photo identification and proof of residence in Wood County. A guardian must sign for children ages 5 – 17. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Keep current at www.facebook.com/quitmanpubliclibrary and visit the library’s website at www.quitmanlibrary.org. Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Download the OverDrive® app to connect to our library’s vast collection of eBooks, audiobooks and streaming video.

  The Quitman Public Library building remains temporarily closed until mandates are lifted. You may return your materials by leaving them in the book drop at the east entrance, or just hang on to them and consider them renewed. All overdue fines will be waived.  All library programs are suspended until further notice.

  Although physical materials cannot be checked out right now, there are alternatives. Now may be the perfect time to explore digital materials if you have a computer, tablet, phone or reading device using OverDrive, Libby, and TexShare Databases. Visit our website at www.quitmanlibrary.org.

  The Tumble Book Library is also available for our youngest readers. The Tumble Book database is easy to use and features unlimited access from your device! Check our website home page for user and password information.

  Wi-fi is available 24/7 for patrons and can be best accessed from the front parking area. Call 903-763-4191 during business hours for password information.

  If you have an urgent need for copies, faxing, printing, legal or tax forms, or need notary service, call or email and we will do our best to serve you.

  We can renew or assign you a temporary card number over the phone.

  The Quitman Public Library building was temporarily closed on Monday, March 16, 2020 and will remain as such until mandates are lifted.

•  I have materials checked out or that need renewing. What about fines? Please return your materials when they are due by leaving them in the book drop at the east entrance, or just hang on to them and consider them renewed. All overdue fines will be waived.

•  What about library programs? All library programs are suspended until further notice. Friends of the Library and QPL Story Time hope to reconvene in September. Summer Reading and Summer Lunch for Kids are subject to being postponed.

Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020   ●   Wood County Monitor – Quitman TX

   Friends of the Quitman Public Library invites everyone to its next meeting on Tuesday, Mar. 10, 2020 at noon in the Shamburger Community Room. Special guest will be David Sudhoff with Men’s Recovery and Restoration which is located on Hwy 37 (Old VFW) in Winnsboro. Invite others to come listen as he shares valuable information for our community about addiction and recovery.

Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

   The 2nd Friday Acoustical Music Circle is Mar. 13 from 6 - 9 p.m. in the library’s community room. Acoustical musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited to join in, and listeners are always welcome. Contact Eugene Allen at 903-975-5745.

   QPL Story Time meets each Wednesday at 2 p.m.  Terri Bennett plans an educational hour filled with stories, crafts and plenty of fun. Upcoming themes will focus on St. Patrick’s Day, Things that are Green, March Winds and Welcome Spring! The program is designed for young readers and home-schooled students. Call 903-763-BOOK (2665). Special thanks to Peoples Telephone for funding and sponsorship of this year’s crafts and activities.

   Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 16, 2020. The group meets at one of the local restaurants for fellowship prior to the meeting, and anyone is welcome to attend. Contact David Gilbreath at 972-977-7988 for details.

   Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir invite students of all ages and skill levels to bring their own supplies and join the Quitman Knitter’s Group for free instruction each Thursday 2 – 4 p.m. in the library’s front lobby area.

   Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Assistance in reading/writing skills and math is available in the public computer area on Tuesdays and Fridays during library hours.
